1787 Fugio Copper. Pointed Rays. Newman 12-U, W-6810. Rarity-4. STATES UNITED, 4 Cinquefoils. AU-58 (PCGS).This is an uncommonly well preserved, highly attractive example of this scarcer Fugio copper variety. Satiny and hard, the surfaces are free of troublesome marks and flan flaws. The strike is trivially off center to the lower left obverse and upper left reverse, although only the denticulation is affected. Virtually all design elements are boldly rendered, the focal features with plenty of sharp definition. A few swirls of charcoal on the reverse notwithstanding, both sides exhibit handsome copper-rose patina that rounds out an impressive list of physical attributes. Prominent clash marks are noted for the reverse, typical of survivors from this die pairing.
