1860 Abraham Lincoln. DeWitt-AL 1860-73. Silver. 19 mm. MS-65 (NGC).Deeply toned in pleasant steel-blue patina. Prooflike fields. The dies were cut by George Hampden Lovett. These are believed to be among the earliest pieces struck for the presidential campaign of 1860, whether first or second is debated. According to George Fuld, just three were struck in silver, confirming the rarity of the present example. From the Q. David Bowers Collection. Earlier ex Wayte Raymond; F.C.C.
