1919-S Buffalo Nickel. MS-65+ (PCGS). CAC.Here is a phenomenal strike and condition rarity for the key date 1919-S nickel. It is boldly to sharply defined throughout and has a full endowment of soft satin luster, exceptional for this often poorly produced issue. Otherwise silver surfaces are enhanced by wisps of pale pink and apricot iridescence. It is smooth, attractive and quite close to an even higher Mint State grade.pThe 1919-S is one of the most challenging issues to collect for advanced Buffalo nickel specialists. Even worn survivors from the mintage of 7,521,000 pieces are scarce, but the real problems for discerning collectors begin in the Mint State portion of the numismatic grading scale. Not only is the 1919-S scarce to rare in all Uncirculated grades, but such pieces are almost always poorly struck, lackluster or both. Other examples have additional problems with eye appeal due to dark and/or splotchy toning. Indeed, the coin offered here is very well produced and preserved for a 1919-S nickel. It is certainly one of the most impressive examples of the issue that we have presented at auction. Truly a "wonder coin" that would add great significance to its next collection.
