Signed by Public Treasurer John Haywood, for whom North Carolinas Haywood County is named. Haywood is North Carolinas longest serving treasurer, holding the position for 40 years until his death in 1827. Additionally he served as the first mayor of Raleigh. He was one of the states most popular figures during his time in public service. However, his legacy was tarnished when after his death it was discovered that $68,000 in state funds were unaccounted for. <p>All notes from this 1824 issue are rare. This 50 Cent note is printed in sharp inks and still displays strong detail. The restoration mentioned by the grading service is skillfully executed and does little to detract from the notes appearance.
