1787 Massachusetts Half Cent. Ryder 1-D, W-5900. Rarity-4. VF-30 Scrape.73.3 grains. This is a rather pleasing example with a few swirls of reddish-gold to otherwise dominant medium brown patina. Predominantly smooth, a thin vertical pin scratch in the right obverse field is noted, as is a more significant reverse scrape at the top of the shield that explains our qualifier. Nicely centered on the planchet, all major design elements are boldly to sharply defined. From William Doyle Galleries sale of December 1984, lot 83.
