1843 Liberty Head Eagle. AU-50 (PCGS).An uncommonly high grade example of this surprising condition rarity among early date Liberty Head eagles. Boldly toned in khaki-gold, both sides are sharply defined overall with plenty of original luster remaining. Despite a relatively generous mintage of 75,462 pieces, the 1843 is scarcer than such lower mintage eagles from its era as the 1839/8 Large Letters, 1840, 1842 Large Date, 1842-O and 1845-O. With most survivors grading no finer than Choice EF, this impressive AU represents a significant find for the astute gold enthusiast. From the Fairmont Collection.
