1850-O Liberty Head Double Eagle. EF-45 (PCGS).,This handsome example exhibits original khaki-gold patina to overall boldly defined surfaces. Direct lighting calls forth appreciable remnants of satiny mint luster to further enhance this coins appeal. The double eagle was created out of the vast riches coming out of the California Gold Rush, though it would be another four years before the branch mint at San Francisco would be up and running. Until then, the vast amounts of gold coming out of California went to Philadelphia and New Orleans. While the majority of the riches went to Philadelphia, a significant portion ended up at New Orleans where some 141,000 double eagles were produced in the denominations first year. The coins saw heavy use throughout, leaving the vast majority of extant specimens very worn and often damaged, making this a notable condition rarity above AU. Desirable in any grade, this Choice EF example will be a welcome addition to any cabinet.,,
