1861 Silver Three-Cent Piece. Proof-66 (NGC).,This delightful Gem Proof trime displays very light silver iridescence. Pronounced field to device contrast is seen on the obverse, although the reverse is more uniformly reflective. Fully struck and expertly preserved, this is a lovely example of the underrated Proof 1861 silver three-cent piece. The mintage was 1,000 Proofs, several hundred of which failed to sell to contemporary collectors and were later released into circulation by the Mint.,From the A.J. Vanderbilt Collection.
