Unc Details--Shipwreck Effect (B) (NGC).，A satisfying example of this historic issue offering fully untoned surfaces and a matte-like texture courtesy of time spent beneath the Atlantic Ocean in the wreck of the <em>S.S. Republic</em>. The design elements remain impressively sharp throughout, with strong delineation to Libertys features and the eagles feathers. The W-11 die pair is readily identifiable by the crack protruding down from the rim near star 7 through Libertys profile. This obverse was later employed by the Confederate States of America in their stewardship of the New Orleans Mint to strike four half dollars featuring a proprietary reverse design. These four coins would be the only coins struck by and for the Confederacy, and this association of the W-11 variety makes the present piece a significant fine for both numismatic and American Civil War enthusiasts.，PCGS# 39968.，，Ex S.S.
