Buffalo, Wyoming. $10 1902 Date Back. Fr. 616. The First NB. Charter #3299. PMG Very Fine 25.,Simply a perfect title to evoke memories of the Old West. Located in the foothills of the Big Horn Mountains, the town of Buffalo was chartered in the Wyoming Territory in 1884, and the First NB would open for business the next year. Nearby is the infamous Hole In The Wall pass of Butch Cassidy fame. The bank would issue Brown Backs under the Territory, none of which have yet to surface and, upon state recognition, would issue Browns, all three Series of 1902 types, and small size notes, lasting through until the end of the note-issuing era. One building still stands today on Main Street that housed the bank from 1907 through 1912, when a massive Clear Creek flood put Main Street under 10 feet of water. While there are 14 large notes recorded in the census, this newly discovered Date Back is the first to ever be offered.
