Mesquite, Texas. $5 1902 Red Seal. Fr. 587. The First NB. Charter #6140. PMG Extremely Fine 40.,A sorely needed addition to a previous Track and Price census total of just three large-size notes. This piece becomes one of two now known red seals with a $10 denomination listed in the census, albeit without grade. The only public appearance we are aware of was an offering of an uncertified Choice Uncirculated 1902 $5 Plain Back which sold for $4,887 in a June 2012 sale. This beautifully signed red seal note shows with only faint circulation while exhibiting strong red color of the overprints and pleasing centering and margins. A two digit serial number of 67 furthers the desirability of this rare Texas note.
