1917 Medal of Solidarity. Gold. 36 mm. 38.1 Grams. By M. Lordonnois. Barac-1. About Uncirculated.,Rare in any of its three compositions, this gold example was produced for presentation only to commanders-in-chief of the Allied armies during World War One. Silver examples were for senior officers, bronze pieces for all other grades, with a total of up to 100 pieces to each participating nation. Barac states that the gold medal is actually gilt bronze, but the present example is clearly gold, and other sources verify that it was actually struck in gold specifically for presentation to the highest ranking commanders. The original pin-back hanger and red, white and blue ribbon have been lost. There is a small test mark visible only on the rim. Very rare! From the Richard Stuart Collection.
