RUSSIA. Pattern 2 Kopek Struck in Copper, 1828-CNB. Nicholas I (1825-55). NGC MS-64 BN.C-118.6; Bit-918; Brekke-137; Uzd-3264. VERY RARE. Struck at the St. Petersburg mint in the style of those of Alexander I, but remained as a pattern only issue and never released into circulation. Since copper coinage began turning to change from paper currency the value they held also began falling which caused several reforms. During the reign of Nicholas I copper coinage went through four different standards of Rubles to the pood 24 (1826-30), 36 (1830-39), 16 (1839-48) & 32 (1849-55). The public had lost faith in the subsidiary copper issues as by 1839 they were only 16 rubles to the pood. The new reform which helped to regain the publics lost faith with the government started issuing copper coins with values stated in silver.
