Knoxville, Tennessee. $5 1882 Brown Back. Fr. 472. The Holston NB. Charter #4648. PMG About Uncirculated 55.A fascinating uncut pair of $5 Brown Backs from this Knoxville bank that was chartered in October of 1891. These fives were printed four to a sheet and 15,875 sheets were printed. Uncut pairs like this are rarely seen, especially on southern banks. The two notes here display darkly printed inks, bright paper and original embossing. The bank officers signatures are neatly penned and legible. Just a couple of light sheet folds are seen along with a small remnant, possibly from mounting, on the back bottom right corner for which the grading service commented "Minor Foreign Substance." An interesting piece of Tennessee banking history and a great Knoxville item.
