KOREA. Chatelaine, ND (ca. 1800s).The large central portion of a ceremonial chatelaine. Octagonal cast with central design of a potted tree surrounded by cash coins, double happiness above. Eleven holes along the lower edge intended for attaching ribbons, coins and amulets (no longer attached).<br /> Historically chatelaines were given to brides on their wedding day, adorned with amulets for protection and coins for good luck. They were then hung within the home for the same purpose. RARE. Nicely cast and of good artistic style.VERY FINE.
