Fr. 181. 1880 $100 Legal Tender Note. PMG Very Fine 30 Net. Repaired.；An important lot and a denomination that is rare with all varieties and dates of $100 Legal Tenders considered. PMG has graded only a scant 14 notes on this catalog number with most residing at or below this Very Fine 30 level. Just four notes are graded higher and the best of that quartet is a single About Uncirculated 55 example. The initial appeal of this A568308 plate D note would indicate an Extremely Fine grade as the detail is robust and the circulation faint. Close inspection reveals a repaired right margin which is a trait most of these high denomination large-size notes posses in some form. Outstanding styling with a large portrait vignette of Lincoln at left and arched "UNITED STATES" at top center with surrounding filigree detail. An allegory of a woman and child representing Architecture, right. Again, an important opportunity for this seldom offered design and denomination.
