Dover, New Hampshire. Strafford Bank. 1850s. $500. PMG Extremely Fine 40. Remainder.;(NH-75 G100a) Toppan, Carpenter & Casilear. An important New Hampshire offering with this impressive $500 denomination being downright rare for the state. The note shows in a remainder form and compellingly lacks the punch cancels mentioned in Haxby. Ornate framed vignette of a woman with bow and arrows at lower left and right central vignette of an allegory representing commerce. Large "500" counters at all corners, save for the lower left. Ornate back design in red with intricate lathe work. Just a small internal tear at the top, right center which is mentioned by PMG in the comments section of the holder. A perfect match to the $1000 note we are also offering. We handled an uncut pair of these high-denomination notes in our November 2015 Baltimore sale where they brought $9,987 as lot 30133.
