1871 Shield Nickel. MS-65+ (PCGS).;Satiny silver gray surfaces are untoned and expectably free of detracting blemishes for the premium Gem grade. The scarcest Shield nickel produced up to that point in time, the 1871 has a limited circulation strike mintage of 561,000 pieces. Since few examples were set aside at the time of delivery, Mint State survivors are particularly elusive in todays market, and most are in lower grades than this MS-65+. The reverse is rotated approximately 30 degrees clockwise from medallic die alignment.
