The stated qualifier concerns an area of tooling in the obverse field before Libertys neck, where someone tried to efface a planchet streak. The 1889-CC may be among the more readily obtainable Carson City Mint double eagles in an absolute sense, but it is still scarce in Mint State when viewed in the wider context of the U.S. rare coin market. With the ever-growing popularity of the Carson City Mint among specialized collectors competition for the 150 to 200 Uncirculated coins extant remains strong.；
