From a current population speculated to be in the single digits.<p>After the death of Cromwell the exiled Prince Charles returned to England and ascended the throne of his father as Charles II. The monarchy was restored, though the new king was careful to not exact too great a toll for the insurrection. Pardons were issued to a great many of the Republicans (though notably not to the men involved in the execution of his father) along with leaving intact any land transactions and confiscations except those pertaining to the Church or Crown.
The Low Countries purchased some of the Cromwell dies, as well as creating some of their own. Some of these later Dutch produced dies made their way back to London in 1738. Also at this time John Tanner, later the Chief Engraver for the Royal Mint, re-created Thomas Simons contemporary Cromwell dies.
