The Nicholas Rhodes Collection: Coins of North East India (Part 2)。Garhwal, Gorkha occupation, Timashas (3), in the names of Shah ?Alam II and Girvan Yuddha (1), undated, with a katar, Muhammad Akbar II and Girvan Yuddha (2), one dated ahd, the others undated, but with dagger or trident, all Śrinagar mint (RGV. 1379-80, 1387 (plate coin), 1391), very fine, some flatness as usual, scarce (3). Subject to 20% VAT on Buyer?s Premium. For more information please view Terms and Conditions for Buyers.。The Gorkhas invaded Garhwal in 1791, having previously subdued Kumaon. They did not capture Śrinagar and were forced to return home at the news of a Chinese invasion of Nepal. They did, however, get a treaty agreed with Parduman for an annual tribute to be paid to them. Twelve years later, in 1803, they invaded again, this time successfully occupying Śrinagar without difficulty. Their twelve-year rule became infamous for its tyranny until Garhwal was annexed by the British. Timashas continued to be struck firstly in the names of Shah ?Alam II and Girvan Yuddha, then Muhammad Akbar II and Girvan Yuddha, and then in the name of Giran Yuddha alone.
