1928 Thousands are easily distinguishable from their 1934 & 1934A counterparts by their unique "redeemable in gold on demand" obligation. They are also much rarer than 34 & 34A $1000s: despite an emission of over 1,100,000 notes, only about 1400 1928 thousands in all grades/from all districts have been graded by the two 3rd party grading services. In Gem grade, 1928 $1000s are so rare that no Gems at all have been graded by either PCGS or PMG for four districts (Boston, New York, Minnesota & San Francisco) & only 55 Gems have been graded for the other eight districts combined.

Only two 1928 St. Louis LGS Gem $1000s have appeared at public auction in the last 10 years, & the last was over six years ago. This wonderfully appealing chance survivor not only walks the walk as every bit of its assigned technical grade, but it is dazzling as well.
,
