No. 13930, Plate A. One of the most beautiful Confederate note types and a key to the Southern Bank Note Company series, these ever popular T-15 1861 $50s depict Ceres, the goddess of agriculture at left with Justice holding a sword and scales at right. A steam powered passenger train chugs through town at center. Only 14,860 of these high quality notes were issued and today all are scarce with truly choice examples ever so hard to come by. This example is incredibly desirable with full frame lines and darkly printed inks. Brilliant color remains in the vermillion overprint at center. A high end Very Fine note and one of very few T-15s to be seen with a PPQ designation from PCGS attesting to the well preserved quality of the paper. Two light cut cancellations are seen but are well concealed and do nothing to detract from the overall aesthetics of this great note. ,From the Old Virginia Collection.
