Gold Memento Dollar ND (1927) MS63 NGC,Kann-1553, L&M-unlisted in gold(type of L&M-49),KM-unlisted in gold (type of KM-Y318a.1). Obv. Bust of Sun Yat-senleft. Rev. Value (One Yuan) in circle with English legend,MEMENTO-BIRTH OF REPUBLIC OF CHINA. Brilliant golden mint luster,with well defined devices, and surfaces free of all but the mostinsignificant imperfections. An extremely rare gold presentationissue and the first example of this type we have seen. This appearsto be the only example of this type certified by either NGC orPCGS. In April of 1927, the national government moved from Cantonto Nanking. An immediate decision was made to discontinue mintingthe popular Yuan-Shih-kai Dollars and replace them with a Dollardepicting Dr. Sun Yat-sen. After some discussion, it was decided touse the design from the 1912 Memorial Dollar, with slightmodifications, mainly on the reverse. Large quantities were mintedin silver between 1927 and 1932, as well as a tiny number of goldpresentation pieces.From the Ultima Collection
