Redondo, California. $5 1902 Red Seal. Fr. 588. Farmers & Merchants NB. Charter #7895. PMG Very Fine 25.A true miracle of survival by even the most objective of considerations. Issued by the Farmers & Merchants National Bank of Redondo (Charter# 7895) likely around the time that the Aldrich-Vreeland Act came into effect in 1908, this note represents the sole surviving example of its type recorded here by the National Bank Note Census and an extremely rare opportunity to be had at auction as this note last traded publicly in May 1999 just days before Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace opened in theaters. As for the note itself, signs of even circulation may be observed while the reasoning behind the comment applied by PMG which states "Stained" is not left to the imagination or obscured by the machinations of the unskilled. The penned signatures of Cashier Alfred H. Klein and President Jackson Alpheus Graves remain distinct having survived close to 120 years since their application and serve to speak to the original qualities still retained by this once ordinary financial instrument making this a truly great note for the collector enamored with Series of 1902 Red Seal National Bank Notes. PMG comments "Stained."From the Manhattan Beach Collection.
