1786 Connecticut Copper. Miller 2.1-A, W-2465. Rarity-3. Mailed Bust Right, Round Head, ETLIB INDE. EF-40 (PCGS).105.8 grains. Perfectly uniform light chocolate brown color immediately catches the eye, while the surfaces exhibit invitingly hard and glossy texture upon first glance. Minor roughness at the centers is natural planchet texture, as this variety is often seen poorly defined in this area. Planchet flaws are minimal and not bothersome, but close inspection reveals a tiny gouge at the lower right reverse and a couple of old scratches. The eye appeal is still very nice, however, and it seems to be the coin that Richard August favored even though the detail on the other one is more completely expressed. Beautifully centered with a full date aside from the weak "1" which is commonplace for this reverse.PCGS# 686823. BASE PCGS# 325. NGC ID: 2B2D.From the Richard August Collection.
