Printed in bright blue on white paper, the central vignette features a steam locomotive passing through Shan Hai Guan, with the Qing flag flying on one of the gates. This is the first year of issue from the Company, before the name change in 1896 when the Peiyang Official Railway Bureau merged with the Chinese Railway Company. Extremely rare. PMG Comments Previously Mounted.It is doubtful whether this note is a remainder or a specimen, as the cataloguer has seen similar notes, also with the perforated CANCELLED, dated 1899, listed as specimens. Regardless of the true nature of this note, the minute PMG population of just three notes confirms its rarity. We handled a note listed as A56r back in April 2012, and that note was an unsigned note with a serial number dated 1899, i.e. a true remainder note. It fetched USD3286.25, including the Buyers Premium.
