NJ-183. New Jersey. March 25, 1776. 6 Pounds. PMG Choice About Uncirculated 58 EPQ.No. 236. Distinctively different when held against most of its contemporaries. This Colonial-era note from New Jersey offers not only an explosion of color and eye appeal, but a window into the convoluted saga of authorization that sometimes preceded the issue of paper money in Colonial America. First proposed in 1768; this emission was not authorized until 1775 albeit with conditions. These conditions were nonetheless rendered moot with the outbreak of open conflict between the Colonists and Great Britain, but these notes remain rather pleasing in terms of color and composition. The 6 Pound note issued under this emission is particularly appealing and offers both rich hues of red and brilliant moods of blue that offer a fine contrast of uncommon complexity and sharpness. These traits are brought to form by the uncommon nature of this specimen reflected in the grade assigned by PMG and should rightly provoke much interest and strong bids for this handsome specimen if recent offerings are any indication.
