GREAT BRITAIN. Noble, ND (1356-61). London Mint; mm: Cross 3 (4). Edward III. PCGS MS-62.S-1490; Fr-89; N-1180. Fourth coinage, pre-treaty period, series G. Obverse: Edward, holding sword and shield, standing facing in ship with bowsprit; ornaments: 1-1-1-1, ropes: 3/2, quatrefoils: 4/3, lis: 3/3; Reverse: Voided short cross potent over cross fleuree; in each angle, crown over lion passant over trefoil; at center, Є within quadrilobe; all within polylobe, with trefoils in spandrels. An alluring Mint State example of this staple of British numismatics, with a full flan and gold luster sheening throughout. A slightly weak strike, not an uncommon occurrence, is noted though technically, very few examples exceed this one.
