This banknote features a striking design with black and orange colors, showcasing dragons and a fireball at the upper center. There is a vignette of a steam locomotive and a bank building at the lower left and right corners. The reverse side displays black and brown colors, with English text and hand-signed signatures at the lower left and right. This note is a typical Qing era design that elegantly incorporates contemporary elements and English text, resulting in a unique piece.<p><p><p>The bank was established in Hangzhou in 1907 by the Zhejiang Provincial Railway Company, with a capital of one million dollars. The following year, offices were opened in Shanghai and Hankow. In 1914, the Zhejiang Provincial Railway Company was nationalized, and shares in the bank were sold to investors. Between 1918 and 1937, the bank had the largest savings deposits among various commercial banks in operation for five of those years.<p><p><p>After the establishment of the Peoples Republic of China, the bank was absorbed into the Peoples Bank of China, while its branches in Hong Kong remained independent.
