No. 851. One of 1,000 notes that authorized and printed under this denomination for the emission dated June 16, 1775. This emission is the first to be issued from East Greenwich with this particular denomination possibly unique in terms of overall survivors. Last offered in November 2017; this note managed to sell then for $1,320 by the time that bidding had ended. The signatures of Henry Ward and Metcalfe Bowler are particularly plain and distinct with Bowlers signature quite sharp despite the tendency of the reddish ink to fade after a brief stint in circulation as demonstrated by other Colonial-era pieces from Rhode Island. This is indeed a rare item and one sure to attract much in the way of interest. PCGS Currency comments "Edge Splits."From the Richard August Collection.
