FRANCE. Empire. 40 Francs, 1807-A. Paris Mint. Napoleon I. NGC MS-64.Fr-493; KM-688.1; Gad-1083; F-540/1. Mintage: 5,548. An ostensibly superfluous example of this SCARCE type, the present specimen remains at the top of the NGC census a full decade after its encapsulation, with the next highest graded merely attaining the level of AU-58. Seemingly of superior craftsmanship, it glistens with a tremendous degree of elegant and enticing luster, all while the strike is rather sharp and exquisite. Attaining this singular example will no doubt be a massive feather in the cap of its next owner, as its "WINGS" designation would indicate. To view all items from the Richard Margolis Collection, click here. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from CNG/St. Jamess in 2014 for $30,310).Ex: Richard L.
