The extensive series of Gobierno Departmental notes were issued to finance the Thousand Days War (Guarra de los Mil Dias), which took place from October 1899 to November 1902. Different designs were issued every few months. A fascinating series, this well circulated example comes from the July, 1902 issue. Just one example grades finer in the PMG population report. This is the plate note in the Danilo Parra Ariza reference and was possibly part of the King Farouk collection, sold in 1954. It was sold as lot 290 in the August 1972 Almanzar sale, of which the predominant source of the sale came from the famous Palace collection of King Farouk.
