Exceptionally crisp and enchanting, this wondrously Choice tall hat issue features a regal portrait of Yuan Shih-kai, with this obverse being used later for his Hung-hsien imperial types. While possessing a mostly steely gray hue, this crown balances its palette with champagne and russet hues that become a bit more intense as one moves outward from the central areas. Altogether, a robust and highly attractive example of a popular type.
