Fr. 148a. 1862 $50 Legal Tender Note. PMG Very Fine 30 Net. Repaired. Impeccably rare with only two examples recorded by Track & Price and PMG, this note stands as an unsung rarity with few equals even among a denomination/type that is already out of reach of all but the most advanced and financially well off collectors. As for this individual note, great color and bright-white paper are readily observed upon a cursory inspection of this magnificent example. Bold greens dominate the face and reverse of this note while the Treasury seal remains bold despite some fading. The extensive lathework on the reverse accounts for a rather stunning spectacle, yet one that failed to adequately deter counterfeiters. However, a series of skilled restorations are readily evident along the top and bottom margins that serve to mitigate a trio of splits. These repairs nonetheless help lend a degree of strong eye appeal to this note compared to a litany of problems that would have culminated in a rather unsightly eye sore. Overall, one would be hard-pressed to find a comparable example at a similar price point in the future. This note will eventually assume a place of honor and will be treasured by whomever is lucky enough to add this scarce note to their collection. PMG comments "Repaired."<p><p><p><p><p>
