Fr. 124a. 1862 $20 Legal Tender Note. PMG Choice Fine 15. A monumental offering representing only the third note ever recorded for this extraordinarily rare Friedberg. Fresh from the weeds as so it were, this note also represents the finest known example ever recorded for this Friedberg and is among the first 100,000 notes printed by the American Bank Note Company on account of the missing series number at top center. Despite experiencing prolonged circulation, this note has through some miracle managed to avoid redemption and destruction, the present example is representative of a scarce type and denomination regardless of variety and has been the beneficiary of a skilled restoration. One that has likely stabilized and guaranteed the continued preservation of this exceptional discovery for decades and generations to come. At center, Alfred Jones America vignette assumes a prominent position and is flanked by a series of design elements, including a pair of cycloidal protectors and a vivid green overprint, both elements reminiscent of the earlier Demand Notes and Obsolete Bank Notes from the 1850s. The reverse likewise displays an obligation promising convertibility to government bonds amidst a vivid hue of dark green, arranged in a variety of ornamental patterns to thwart and easily distinguish counterfeits

As for the collector seeking to assemble a first rate set of Friedberg numbers, this note represents a scarce opportunity and one that the discerning collector cannot afford to pass as the chances of another example surfacing are slim to none.

PMG Population 1/None Finer.

PMG comments "Repaired."
