Shiner, Texas. $5 1882 Brown Back. Fr. 477. The First NB. Charter #5628. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.The First National Bank of Shiner, Texas was chartered in November of 1900 and was the only bank to issue notes from this small Lavaca County town. It issued 1882 Brown Backs and Date Backs, 1902 Plain Backs, and Type 1 and 2 1929 Nationals, issuing notes all the way to the end of the National Currency era. This boldly printed and well margined $5 Brown Back comes from a run of high grade examples from this bank which escaped circulation and provide collectors an excellent Texas National Currency type note with a great name. Any Texan worth his boots will remind you that Shiner is home to Shiner Bock beer, the unofficial state beer of Texas.
