1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 33.28-Z.11, W-3765. Rarity-5+. Draped Bust Left, Snipe Nose. AU-53 (PCGS).150.0 grains. A lovely and interesting example of the variety with both the Hall and Miller attribution numbers painted in the obverse fields in the hand of Frederick A. Canfield. Frosty light brown surfaces are smooth and barely worn, with considerable luster on the reverse. A few small planchet flaws are noted on the effigy as well as some voids causing some lack of detail at the lower left reverse. Otherwise choice with no post-strike issues. Nicely struck, a bit off center on the obverse but with overall excellent sharpness for the variety, particularly so on the reverse seated figure where even some of the facial detail is visible. Certainly a Condition Census example, finer than any that have appeared at auction in recent decades.
