MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1861-O FR. Oaxaca Mint. NGC MS-65. KM-377.11; DP-Oa05. Plain O variety. Basically as-struck and given the Gem quality grade by NGC, this amazing survivor of the issue displays loads of snow-white luster over the surfaces and an enviable strike. Produced from heavily rusted dies, the surfaces show significant variances in texture, with coarse, as-struck, granularity seen along much of the obverse peripheries, while the reverse surfaces are largely satiny with a quasi-reflective sheen toward the edges. Considering the RARITY of the issue to begin with, this piece is an absolute marvel of survival in this immense quality. For the specialist collector focused on the charming issues of Oaxaca, or the broader-focused collector endeavoring to acquire the elite, this marks an opportunity worth seizing.
