This is likely to be a specimen rather than a remainder of the Yellow Grouper $500 given the perforation CANCELLED near the upper right border. Evidence of mounting marks over the signature areas would indicate that a plastic panel bearing the new date and signature combinations was stuck on the note at production but which was subsequently detached from the note. If so, this note would have been one of the first prototype printings before the commencement of printing regular specimens. This is now, however, a debatable point given the notes current appearance but it is an unusual and interesting specimen nonetheless.
