CHINA. Brass 100 Yuan Pattern or Trial, ND (1983). Marco Polo. PCGS SPECIMEN-67. cf. KM-80 (for obv. in gold). Though bearing the same obverse as the regular issue commemorative in gold, this particular RARITY instead displays an entirely different, and rather spartan, reverse design, merely featuring the characters 样帀 ("sample") between two scrolls. Struck in brass, it is clear that this was meant as a trial striking for the intended Marco Polo issue. Standing as the only such representative of the type in the PCGS census, it is also clear that this is EXCEEDINGLY RARE and an important opportunity for the advanced collector of the modern Chinese commemorative program.
