MACEDON. Kingdom of Macedon. Alexander III (the Great), 336-323 B.C. AR Tetradrachm, Macedonia Mint, ca. 323-320 B.C. NGC VF. Smoothing, Scratches. Pr-113; Muller-224. Early Posthumous issue. Obverse: Head of Heracles right wearing lions scalp; Reverse: Zeus enthroned left holding eagle and scepter, Macedonian helmet in left field. This Tetradrachm delivers a bold strike with great centering and attractive style. Some underlying luster beneath the charcoal gray tone enhances the coins eye appeal. The flan is slightly porous and some evidence of cleaning and smoothing is visible on the reverse fields, but the piece remains an overall highly attractive example.
