1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 37-J, W-5140. Rarity-5+. Outlined Shield, Goiter. EF Details--Environmental Damage (PCGS). 153.9 grains. Dark olive with tan high points over surfaces that have been moderately corroded from ground exposure. The obverse is boldly detailed, fairly well centered, and reasonably attractive. The reverse shows a very bold shield, but is a bit rougher and UNUM is quite weak. Die State 2, with substantial spalling near the coulter. This is a very elusive variety, unknown better than EF and essentially non-collectible better than VF. Choice examples are extremely rare in every grade. PCGS# 767904.
