Undated (ca. 1652-1674) St. Patrick Halfpenny. Vlack 5-D, W-11540. Rarity-5. Small Letters. VF-20 (PCGS). 148.9 grains. A splendid example, last offered in our (Stacks) 1984 Picker sale, where we described it as follows: "[An] excellent type coin … For the sake of accuracy, we make note that the obverse is ever so slightly off-center, but this affects only the very tops of the word REX. … The splasher is just a hair off the crown, but here again only in comparison to the last lot. A perfect light brown with surfaces free from any marks or scratches. Nice Very Fine." We see two very subtle old scratches on the backside of the king, but otherwise this is a perfectly choice example of the elusive Small Letters type. PCGS# 922558. From the E Pluribus Unum Collection. Earlier from our (Stacks) sale of the Richard Picker Collection, October 1984, lot 55.
