Fr. 352. 1891 $1 Treasury Note. PMG Superb Gem Uncirculated 67 EPQ. During the Series of 1891, there was a notable shift in the design of the notes compared to the ornately printed backs of the Series of 1890 Treasury Notes. The Series of 1891 notes featured a more open back design, a trend aimed at deterring counterfeiters by making the notes easier to identify. The face of the note closely resembled the Series of 1890 notes, but the 1891 examples were exclusively issued with a red scalloped Treasury Seal.

This specific catalog number bears the engraved signatures of Treasury officials Bruce and Roberts. The paper of the note remains bright and entirely original, adding to its overall appeal. It is considered key in the Superb Gem grade level, making it highly desirable among collectors.

It is worth mentioning that at our Spring sale earlier this year, we sold a PMG 67EPQ example of this note sold for $10,200.
