1739-X Sou Marque. Amiens Mint. Vlack-214. Rarity-5. MS-61 (PCGS). 32.2 grains. One of several uncommonly choice sou marques from the Amiens Mint in this installment of the Syd Martin Collection. Sharply struck and frosty surfaces exhibit pretty champagne-pink iridescence to virtually full silvering. A minor planchet crack is evident just past 12 oclock relative to the obverse, affecting the digit 9, although the date is still fully legible. The lozenge before LUD confirms that this coin was struck after Charles II Spens succeeded his father Charles I as chief engraver at the Amiens Mint. PCGS# 158609.
