An INCREDIBLY RARE Chinese Provincial Pattern in Nickel, this Gem specimen yields a vibrant strike and much in the way of wholesome details throughout. A soft glimmering luster is retained, with limited instances of handling or friction seen on the surfaces. A most impressive and wholesome example, and one for which we expect any specialist in Provincial coinage to be deeply interested in. <em>This Pattern in Nickel highlights an interesting development in the economic history of Warlord Era China. Copper Cash coins were produced in such excess quantity that inflation began to erode their value. As a replacement the provincial governor of Shansi suggesting striking coins in nickel and fixing them to the value of silver dollars, so as to curb inflation. These attempts at producing a nickel coinage ultimately were unsuccessful, and pattern strikes at Shensi stopped with the closure of the Shensi Mint. </em>
