Whitehead at right, CANCELLED stamp at lower left,(Pick 34, KNB 14), This series of of Chartered Bank notes all feature a green reverse, for this $5 type, all are seen with "190" printed at right whereas this has "189-" printed. On the left hand side, it looks to be partially hand painted on. To note the manager at that time Whitehead left Hong Kong in 1902, and his signatures are only found on notes dated 1897 or before. With the various features on this note, in the cataloguers opinion, this was a trial note for the Pick 34 $5. A discovery note that is first seen in the market.
