Fr. 1219e. 1907 $1000 Gold Certificate. PMG Very Fine 20.The Teehee and Burke signature combinations dates this note in the second half of the 1910s, during which time approximately 116,000 Series 1907 $1000 Gold Certificates were printed. These were mostly used in transactions between banks, as their equivalent value in everyday commerce today would approach $30,000. The current Census indicates some four dozen survivors, about a third of which are in museums or permanent collections leaving only about 30 or so circulating among the collecting community. While there were six signature combination varieties of the Series 1907 $1000 three are either unknown or prohibitively rare (1219a-1219c) and two others are known only in lower or mid circulated grades (1219 & 1219d). The presently-offered example resides in a PMG 20 holder, but most importantly is offered without comments, meaning this is simply an honestly circulated, problem-free example. While the paper shows its share of folds and wrinkles, none are severe and the design remains intact. The orange color on the back retains considerable vibrancy and has faded very little, if at all, over the past century. This note brought $24,000 at its last offering in April 2019 and we expect to exceed that figure in this sale.
