Fr. 1180. 1905 $20 Gold Certificate. PMG Choice Extremely Fine 45 EPQ*.The 1905 Series Technicolor $20 Gold Certificate is an American currency icon, enjoying consistent popularity with collectors for many decades. This particular note has not yet appeared on the Census, but is almost certainly part of the "run" of notes (In the A4043….series) purchased by noted collector William Philpott from a friend who had worked at the Treasury Department. Most of that group has achieved grades in the 64-67 range, but there are a few assorted notes that ended up with high circulated grades. This is one of those notes, having been lightly folded once. Whether it actually circulated is a matter of conjecture, but at first glance the note appears to be new. If held to the light, a few very faint folds become evident. But all that will certainly work to the advantage of the lucky buyer of this note, who will acquire a note that looks virtually new, at a price lower than that of a 63 or 64. PMG awarded a star and an EPQ designation to this note, signifying its superior eye appeal and unquestioned originality. If youve been looking for a nice type example of this legendary note and at a price that wont require a second mortgage, consider this one carefully.
